A good time was had by all at Vasari's Opening day. After a fabulous start on the golf course (my team came in 2nd!) We had a charity ball drop on the 18th (see photos below), followed by the band Orleans (from the 70s) Thanks to my daughter Rachel for helping me and catching the shot of the day - me with the band. Does this make me a groupie? Enjoy the photos

Sandy and I just returned from celebrating our anniversary in London. The whole city is a living museum! My favorite place was Westminister Abbey. It was awesome...we missed the Pope by a few hours. I am posting a few of my images from the trip.

When my daughter Rachel was home for a few weeks before heading back to college she captured this image of me photographing my client and her beautiful daughter.

I recently returned from our summer vacation in Colorado and will be posting some fabulous photos in the next few days. For the first time I also captured video. I will try to see if I can post this as well...Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sunday July 25th was just awesome. We went with our friends Rick and Charlene to Doc's to watch sunset. We got an OMG moment with sunset to the west, a moonrise to the east and a rainbow to the south all at once. Of course I only had my point and shoot and my cell phone camera! The rainbow is a little hard to see, but it is there. Unbelievable.

I caught these Tarpon smiling at me on my way to Key West last weekend. They were huge and obviously happy to see me!

Vasari Golf Course First Update and Eagles on 16 (real ones)

As some of you know, I am photographing the Vasari golf course as it is being rebuilt this summer. This is my first posting since the construction began. If there is something you really want to see, send me an email at gwen@portraitsbygwen.com.

The first 3 images are on the practice range, and I thought they looked a lot like sand dunes in the middle of a lava field.

This is the view from the men's tees on number 7. You may have a bit more trouble finding your footing!

The second image is looking back at the green on 7. At least the pond is green.

The first image is the back side of number 6. It looks like they are going all the way to the water!

This image is the from the tees on number 8. I bet you thought the mounds were big before!

At least the mounds in front of the greens on number 8 will keep the ball from rolling into the pond!

This view is of the number 8 green. It appears to have an alligator mound across the back!

The rest of the pictures are of a mother eagle and her two chicks (very large chicks) She was teaching them to fish at the ladies tee on number 16. One got all wet and through quite a fit! Can you tell which one? (this was yesterday, thanks to Toni and Marty Lawrence for alerting me!)

Ducks make me giggle!

I stopped by the Naples Children's Museum Great Venetian Duck Race. The children in the crowd were having a great time and the ducks were great competitors. The race got off to a grand start with a large number of ducks jumping ship. They were soon corralled with help from some folks in a kayak and rejoined the race. One duck took the lead early, while a few of the other ducks managed to close in near the end. The original lead duck took the race with what one could only call a photo finish.

If you have a chance, watch the top 4 women's ice skate program from last night. It was awe inspiring...Each women topped her personal best score and skated with beauty and heart. Loved it!

Girl's Night Out

Thanks to Lee Willis for inviting a terrific group of women to her home to celebrate her friend Shelia's 5th anniversary cancer free. I also managed to catch Lee's dog Boo dressed for football. Such a cutie!

The great frame shop I mentioned at the party, D&S Gallery, is having their grand opening (they moved) March 13th, 10-2. One of my images will be on display as well. The address is 3725 Bonita Beach Road and their phone number is 239-390-2381.

At the Southwest Florida Professional Photographers print competition tonight, I took third place with my image of McKayla. The image is titled "Sugar and Spice". Thank you to her mother, Alex, for letting me photograph her beautiful daughter!

Food for Thought

Sometimes I find food to be visually appealing and I will grab a quick image with my pocket camera (canon elph). I made the turkey at Thanksgiving. To make my sugar snap peas (upper left) gently saute garlic in olive oil, add sugar snap peas, mushrooms and yellow peppers, continue to saute on low until desired crispness and color. It really looks this green. The cookies are apricot hamantaschen we made at Arlene Levin's cooking demonstration last night (Arlene on right and Suzanne Goeren on left)

Naples Church Dedication

I had the pleasure of photographing the dedication ceremony for the new facilities at the Naples United Church of Christ on January 10th. The Mayor of Naples, Bill Barnett, helped cut the ribbon and the members were entertained with beautiful violin and choir music in the new concert hall.
